Born
from the Atlantic Ocean, the fishermen
village of La Coruña has been for over
2,000 years the entrance and harbour to
many cultures and citizens. This legacy
is present in its history, art, legends
and traditions, which are well blended
with the modernity of the actual city of
La Coruña.
The
Tower of Hercules lighthouse is the
symbol and reference point of La Coruña,
although from time to rime it shares
praises with the fishermen’s houses,
well known because of their galleries
overlooking the harbour, which gave La
Coruña the nickname of City of Glass.
Around the old lighthouse, there is a
Celtic Park, an open-air museum of
sculptures; and around the fishermen’s
houses, there is the City Council
Building.
The City Council building is placed in
the breathtaking Square of Maria Pita,
and next to The Old City: packed with
its beautiful churches, squares, gardens
and little streets. Pretty close to it
and by the sea is the San Antón Castle,
an archaeological museum nowadays. |
